  • About the Academy Scholars

    The Academy Scholars is a full-tuition scholarship inclusive of select additional fees for prospective students entering Grades 6-9.
    • The $20 million donation from the Tull Family Foundation will fund a transformative set of projects and initiatives that will significantly impact the Academy’s academic and athletic offerings and expand access to the school through an increased scholarship program. The Tull Family Foundation is committed to supporting STEM-based educational initiatives and athletic opportunities which are designed to help level the playing field.

Merit and Endowed Scholarships

  • Barker Wardrop Memorial Scholarship

    This scholarship should be awarded to a student in grade 7 or below.
    Awardee must manifest a genuine warmth of character, revealed through love of life, a regard for fellow man, and a deep concern for the best interests of society.
  • Birmingham Award

    To provide immediate financial support to one Middle School student, residing in a Title 1 or low-achieving school district, through an expendable scholarship in the amount of $8,000. This merit-based scholarship will continue, pending enrollment, through the 2025-2026 academic year for a total of $24,000. An additional $2,000 is available for costs associated with education.
  • Charles T Koval Family Endowment Fund

    Provides support for outstanding Sewickley Academy student-athletes in Grades 9-12. Awardee will have financial need. A strong interest in soccer is preferred.
  • Deborah Thaw Valera Scholarship

    Academic merit and financial need will be considered in selection. Selected student will have demonstrated consistent academic achievement by being named to the honor roll. Preference to students who favor languages, history, english, or the arts.
  • Don Rose III Memorial Scholarship

    Awardee will have demonstrated contributions to the community. The recipient should be part of a large, current Academy family who might not be able to send all children without financial assistance.
  • E. Thorne McKallip Scholarship Fund

    This $1,000 scholarship is designated for students who are not children of faculty members.
  • Howard J. Heinz Endowment Scholarship

    Awarded to a senior school student who demonstrates financial need, has strong academics, and makes positive contributions to the school community.
  • James E. Cavalier Scholarship

    Awarded to a Senior School student who contributes positively to the school and upholds similar standards to those that Jim Cavalier lived and worked by.
  • James Porter Edson Memorial Scholarship

    Awarded to a Senior School student who is a well-rounded individual, would appreciate the advantages of an independent school education, and would actively participate in sports.
  • Lawson Family Scholarship

    To be awarded only to new Academy students with financial need who will benefit from the Academy.
  • Mary Clause Heard Memorial Scholarship

    This scholarship is to be awarded to one or more students in Grade 9 or above. Not to be awarded to the same student for four consecutive years. Students must demonstrate financial need. Preference for students who are not currently enrolled or would not be able to continue to attend if the scholarship was not awarded.
  • McAdams Scholarship

    In order to qualify for a McAdams Scholarship, a student must meet all the eligibility requirements for financial aid as described in the financial aid policies of Sewickley Academy. In addition, qualified students must submit an essay along with their financial aid application, must maintain a GPA of 3.0 or better, and participate in at least one season of interscholastic athletics beginning in the Middle School. Finally, it is expected that a McAdams Scholar in the Senior School participate in community service beyond any minimum requirement that may be imposed by the school. The intent of this last requirement is to reinforce the notion that giving back to the community (even by those who receive) is especially important.

  • Merit Scholarship

    Sewickley Academy offers Merit Scholarships for prospective students entering Grades 6-12. The scholarships are given to students who possess a stellar academic performance and actively reflect the Core Values of the institution. These awards are not based on a family’s financial need and range from $2,500 - $10,000 per year. The scholarships are renewable annually through Grade 12, as long as a student continues to meet the criteria:
    • Maintain at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA.
    • Be a positive contributor to the life of the school and/or community through sports, service, leadership positions, and student clubs and organizations.
    • Must NOT receive any major disciplinary infractions.
  • Panther Scholarship

    Up to four students may be awarded this $15,000 scholarship reserved for female athletes.

  • W. Gregg Hansen Memorial Scholarship

    Awarded to an academy student who best exemplifies the academic, athletic, and personal qualities that Gregg embodied. The awardee must demonstrate financial need.
  • William Penn Snyder, Jr. Memorial Scholarship

    Awarded to a current Senior School student who is strong in academics, contributes to the school community, and has high moral standards.
  • Win Palmer Excellence Fund

    This endowed fund, known as the Win Palmer Excellence Fund, was established to provide tuition support to an exceptional Sewickley Academy student who exemplifies the values, character, and sportsmanship that Winthrop (“Win”) Palmer espoused and encouraged in others.
