Sewickley Academy Welcomes New Director of Athletics

Sewickley Academy is thrilled to announce the hiring of Mike Scerbo as the school's new Director of Athletics. With a proven track record in athletic leadership, coaching, and a commitment to fostering a culture of excellence, Scerbo brings a wealth of experience to elevate the Academy’s athletic programs.

Having served in various leadership roles in the world of athletics, Scerbo was most recently the Associate Athletic Director for Sport Program and Facilities at Duquesne University. His commitment to both athletic excellence and passion for the development of student-athletes aligns perfectly with the values upheld by Sewickley Academy.

I look forward to the next chapter of athletics here on campus with great enthusiasm and am confident that Mike will have a tremendous impact. It is exciting for us that he knows firsthand the next step for those Panthers who want to continue participating in sports at the collegiate level" said Dr. Ashley Birtwell, Head of School at Sewickley Academy.

In his new role, Scerbo will oversee the strategic planning, organization, and implementation of all athletic programs at the Academy. This includes coordinating with coaches, supporting student-athletes, and ensuring a positive and inclusive experience for everyone involved in the athletics programs.

Listening to Scerbo speak about his experience as an athlete, coach, and leader, his passion for sports and supporting student-athletes comes through in his words: “Sports have always had a major impact in my life. Growing up, participation in sports taught me many of my life lessons. So I want to make sure that athletics at Sewickley Academy can do that for the young people of tomorrow. My intent is to help our coaches grow and develop so that they can have that same lasting impact on the student-athletes here.”

Scerbo officially assumes his responsibilities on April 2, 2024, and the Sewickley Academy community eagerly looks forward to the positive impact he will make on the school's athletic programs, fostering an environment that encourages not only athletic excellence but also personal growth and character development.
